What is "IT" you may ask?
IT may be how much the industry (corporate) actually controls the content of
"hip hop" music.
"hip hop" music.
IT may be the level of psychological and social impact, even just one verse may have on our younger generation's minds.
IT may be the culture that has evolved, and still continuing a creative change, from the time Hip Hop was born: Bronx - late 1970's. "South, South, Bronx!" lol.
Just What If all the next albums released were created to speak positively about life, choices and consequences. This does not include those who are already doing it to an extent. Some may argue, but like Common, Lupe, Nas .. etc. You guys get the point.
What would be the state of current Hip Hop then? Are artists doing this enough if they are doing it? Does it even matter? Would artists/labels make money? Money vs. Responsibilty? <--- As far as speaking positively to our soo misleaded youth.
#Just Saying. Looks like Lupe had a bit on his mind.. What do you think?
This is soooo REAL, Tiannah. I agree with this 100%. I wish it was like this!!!
ReplyDeleteand you know i've always thought of this..like this should be a project just to see if it could be done..someone pitch it!
ReplyDeleteAs long as corporate controls music, they are gonna put out what's profitable. Very few artist can get away with putting out the music that THEY want to put out. It's all about money unfortunately. And we all know that positive rap doesn't sell as much as ignorant rap.
ReplyDeleteYea i know..but at the same time if everyone came together (hypothetically) they (corporate) would have no choice but to accept that i believe or at least give it thought...There would be an uprising..you can compare it to how government as a whole is in this country. May seem irrelevant but it is very relevant. When a group of ppl have that much power and sort of force the one's they control to do things undesirable, its a matter of time before the "mass" gets tired of it and fights back...How do you think "change" happened in our society now? Or look at it this way..why was Hip Hop created in the first place? Early hip hop artists were sort of like "urban muckrakers". Corruption never has a happy ending..check the history books.
